Newport Sassy Enters $25,000 Mares Open Wednesday's Headliner
DOVER, Del. – Hard-hitting Newport Sassy takes on Divas Image and Enhance Your Mind in a well-balance field of eight fast females in the first $25,000 Mares Open pace of 2018, Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Stable 45, Our Horse Cents and J&T Silva stables’ Divas Image enjoyed a perfect 2-hole trip with Tim Tetrick in the most recent Mares feature. They caught Bryan Truitt’s Enhance Your Mind and Vic Kirby in the closing strides to win by a half-length in 1:51.3. Gary Ewing’s Sweet Bobbie piloted by Art Stafford Jr. prompted a fast pace and held on for third. 
Newborn Sassy, a major stakes winner in her stakes career, reports from Yonkers female features and will be driven by Tim Tetrick. Owned by CC Racing and Jo Ann Looney King, she has already banked nearly three-quarters-of-a-million dollars. Legacy Racing’s Empress Deo reined by Ross Wolfenden leaves from the rail with Fred Hertrich’s Rocknroll Vision and driver Jonathan Roberts is alongside.   Mike Casalino’s Nat A Virgin, Winner of this event two starts back will be driven by Corey Callahan. Joe Davino, Pat O’Brian and Brad Shackman’s Keystone Riptide, piloted by Russell Foster will start from outside post 8.
Heading a strong undercard is an $18,000 Mare Winners pace featuring a pair of 2017 New York Sire Stakes standouts;  World Apart (Tetrick) racing for South Mountain, Bay Stables, Little E and Radio Racing stables and Ann Hill (Stafford Jr.) owned by Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta and Tribbett Racing. Two winners last time Frank Chick’s Rocking BB (Eddie Davis Jr.) and Barry Spedden and Josh Parker’s Cocktail Time (Tony Morgan) are also among the nine starters. .
Thursday features another powerful 13-race program headed by a wide-open $25,000 Open pace.  
Live racing is featured four days a week, Monday through Thursday with post time at 4:30 p.m.
Dover Downs now features a 50-cent Pick 5 wager starting with the 2nd race through the 6th. A late daily double is carded for the 12th and 13th races.
